Dorset Curious and Surprising
Roger Guttridge is a seasoned Dorset author raised locally in Sturminster Newton. His knowledge of the county and its dark and mysterious is vast and his passion for such rich local history is a common theme throughout his writing.
Dorset, curious and surprising is from the first few pages exactly that. The book features very well-researched tales and stories that fill you with intrigue and fascination from chapter to chapter.
The book features notable figures such as Benjamin Jesty who discovered the smallpox vaccine and rogues like Judge George Jeffreys and the murk and myth behind the Bloody Assizes. There are also chapters dedicated to Churchill’s Bridge Too Far, the execution of Elizabeth Martha Brown, the real Poole Pirates, and who knew that Durweston had its own Poltergeist case!
