Dorset Museum, Dorchester

The Dorset County Museum, now known as just Dorset Museum was first established in 1845 by poet William Barnes and other notable local figures. The current museum building dates back to 1881 and was built on the site of the Olde George Inn.

In 2018 we were invited to conduct a period of research ahead of the multi-million-pound refurbishments currently in progress. Our 3 nights of research were concluded within days of the doors closing on this current chapter of the museum.

A report of our findings is available, including the last ever documentation of areas within the museum that have since been lost due to redevelopment. It’s been a privilege to spend time within these walls and preserve their detail for all time.

As a team, we look forward to continued involvement with Dorset County Museum for many years to come. Contact us to find out more about our report.
